LATEST @ May 29 | Police have made a major breakthrough in the suspicious death of a man at Nerang, charging another man with his murder.
Matthew Pascoe was found unresponsive by a cleaner on the floor of a room at the Hinterland Hotel around 11.15am on Saturday.
While police said there was no obvious crime scene to indicate something sinister had occurred, a post-mortem on the 35-year-old’s body found he had suffered serious head and internal injuries.
A crime scene was declared and a homicide investigation launched, with police yesterday appealing for help from the public.
Following overnight inquiries, police have now charged a 34-year-old Nerang man with one count of murder.
He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
EARLIER @ May 28 | A major investigation is underway following the suspicious death of a man at Nerang.
Emergency services were called to a hotel on Station Street around 11.15am on Saturday, following reports a man had been located unresponsive in a room.
The 35-year-old man was declared deceased at the scene and a crime scene was declared.
“As part of investigations, a post-mortem was conducted yesterday which identified the man had significant head and internal injuries,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
Investigators are now appealing to anyone who stayed or visited the hotel on Station Street overnight from the evening of Friday May 23 to Saturday May 24, to come forward.
The Homicide Investigation Unit is assisting the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch with investigations.
