A 16-year-old boy has been charged after police allegedly found a firearm inside a car which crashed into a tree on the northern Gold Coast.

Emergency crews were called to Billinghurst Crescent in Upper Coomera around 6.10am on Thursday following reports a Toyota Yaris had struck a tree.

The teenage driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly discovered a firearm and drug paraphernalia.

The teen has since been charged with a string of offences including three counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of unlawful possession of weapons, and authority required to possess explosives.

He’s also been charged with unlawful use of motor vehicles, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence, possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, offence to buy or possess medicines or hazardous poisons and fail to properly dispose of needle and syringe.

The boy is due to appear at Southport Childrens Court on 11 March.
