Three teenage girls have been charged after allegedly taking a stolen BMW on a wild joyride across the Gold Coast.

Police say the black BMW X5 was stolen from a Lakeside Avenue home in Broadbeach Waters sometime between 10pm on June 6 and 5.30am on June 7.

Officers then spotted the vehicle travelling on the M1 near Carrara on Monday, with the police chopper called in to help track it as it continued its joyride.

It was eventually intercepted on Tallebudgera Creek Road in West Burleigh around 4pm, where two 15-year-old girls and a 17-year-old girl were arrested.

The 17-year-old girl has since been charged with multiple offences, including two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling and commit, and stealing.

She is due to appear before Southport Children’s Court today.

One of the 15-year-old girls was charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, receiving tainted property, and stealing.
