Two teenagers have been charged over the alleged armed robbery of a young boy on a Gold Coast tram.

According to police, a 13-year-old boy was travelling on a tram when he was approached by two other boys who threatened him with a knife and demanded his necklace and jumper.

The victim complied and the two thieves fled the tram at Southport.

Police were alerted to the robbery and tracked the two boys to Queen Street in Southport where they were arrested just after 10pm.

“It will be alleged that a subsequent search of the pair located the 13-year-old’s property and a knife, which was seized,” Queensland Police said.

A 16-year-old Ashmore boy was charged with one count each of armed robbery, possession of knife in a public place and going armed to cause fear.
