Wanted man jumps from M1 overpass to escape police

A wanted man is in police custody after a daring escape attempt that saw him jump from an overpass bridge onto the M1.

A Queensland Police spokesperson has confirmed officers were called to a Nerang hotel just before 11am after receiving information that a man, wanted on an arrest warrant, was at that location.

When they arrived, the man fled and jumped from a nearby overpass, falling around 10 metres onto the median strip of the M1 below.

The incident forced part of the motorway at Exit 71 to be closed down for some time but all lanes have since reopened.

The man suffered leg injuries in the fall and his since been taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains under police guard.
