Train commuters are being warned of major disruptions, with the Gold Coast line set to shut down to allow for major work.
Major weekday closures will take place across the next three weeks, coinciding with the school holidays.
The works are part of the Gold Coast Fast Rail, Cross River Rail, and Ormeau rail facility projects.
From Saturday, September 20, until September 28, trains on the Gold Coast and Beenleigh lines won’t run at all, with buses to replace services between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Rd.
From 29 September to 11 October, Gold Coast and Beenleigh trains will combine to run all stations between Varsity Lakes and Banoon.
On October 12, Gold Coast and Beenleigh trains will travel to Brisbane City via the Tennyson Loop before services return to normal on October 13.
Head of Translink Dr Deborah Hume, is urging commuters to plan ahead and allow plenty of time for travel.
“These works are part of a wider transformation to South East Queensland’s rail network, which will support our growing population and readiness for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Dr Hume said.”
“We understand this will be an inconvenience to customers which is why the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority, Queensland Rail and the Department of Transport and Main Roads have worked together to bring works for these projects together to minimise disruptions and ensure they occur mostly during the school holidays, when less customers travel on the network.”
