Shocked motorists have captured the moment two drivers traded blows in a violent road rage attack on the Gold Coast.

Footage posted to social media over the weekend shows a man in a silver Volkswagen ute being punched through his car window by the driver of a white Holden Commodore.

The fiery roadside exchange unfolded in front of fellow drivers at a set of traffic lights on Currumburra Road in Ashmore on Saturday.

In the video, which has since gone viral online, the Commodore driver can be heard yelling “come on” before landing a punch on the other man through the open window of the VW.

The Volkswagen driver can then be seen performing an illegal u-turn before driving over a median strip and pulling up in front of the Commodore’s bonnet.

After several minutes, the Commodore driver then gets back into his car, driving around the ute before taking off.

It’s not known what sparked the road rage incident.
