American actor Jack Black has recounted the moment he got caught in Tropical Cyclone Alfred as it wreaked havoc on the Gold Coast earlier this year.

The Hollywood superstar was questioned about the severe weather event while appearing on American talkshow ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’ this week.

The 56-year-old was on the Gold Coast filming a reboot of the 1997 adventure horror film Anaconda when the cyclone hit in March, leaving behind a trail of destruction.

“So yeah, this actually happened,” the US comedian said when questioned about getting stuck in a “hurricane” while filming down under.

“We were filming, we were almost done with the film, but we still had a big grand slam finale we had to shoot, but then we got a weather report saying there’s a cyclone coming in,” Black told Meyers.

“So we all had to hunker down, take some time off shooting, and we were in the hotel all locked in and this thing was huge… It was scary but it was also kind of like fun and exciting.

“They warned everyone: stay indoors no matter what happens, don’t go outside into that cyclone if you wanna live.

“And I was like, I know i’m not supposed to, but i’m dying to… I wanna feel that cyclone on my face. So I snuck out of the hotel and I felt the cyclone”.

Black followed up by telling viewers not to do what he did.

“This is bad, this is a bad example to set. Please don’t go into the cyclone, don’t be an idiot like me “.
