A Gold Coast medical centre has been named as one of the victims of a major nationwide cyber-attack targeting healthcare provider Partnered Health.
The Bundall clinic is among 21 practices across the country confirmed to have been impacted by the security breach, with the hackers gaining access to sensitive patient data.
Some of the details believed to have been stolen include sensitive GP consultation notes, referral letters, and pathology results, alongside personal details like names, contact details, private health insurance information and Medicare details.
“Our investigations to date have confirmed that personal information (including health information) was taken from some of the clinics in our network,” Partnered Health said.
“We are continuing to investigate the extent to which personal information has been impacted by this incident and are communicating with patients from impacted clinics”.
Partnered Health first detected the intrusion on June 23 and has since been working alongside the Australian Cyber Security Centre, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and police.
“As a health services provider, we know our patients and our people trust us with personal and medical information and we sincerely apologise for any concern and inconvenience this may cause them,” the company said.
The healthcare provider has also secured an interim injunction from the NSW Supreme Court, legally banning anyone from using, sharing, or publishing the stolen data.
“To help protect our patients and people we have obtained an interim injunction from the Supreme Court of New South Wales ordering that the accessed data is not used or published,” it said.
