A security scare has forced the evacuation of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese from his Canberra residence.

Australian Federal Police officers whisked Mr Albanese from the Lodge at around 6pm on Tuesday night, after a reported bomb threat was made.

It’s understood he spent around three hours at another secure location while officers searched the property.

The all-clear was given around three hours later.

“A thorough search of a protection establishment was undertaken, and nothing suspicious was located,” an AFP spokesperson said.

“There is no current threat to the community or public safety.

“Further information will be provided at an appropriate time.”

Opposition Leader Angus Taylor took to social media to say he was pleased the Prime Minister was safe.

“Threats against any parliamentarian are utterly abhorrent, especially in a country built on expressing our differences through debate,” Taylor wrote on X.

Labor frontbencher Katy Gallagher says it’s another sign of the environment that politicians are working in these days.

“Some of the push against politicians at the moment… certainly the online world is alive and flourishing, and it’s difficult, but we’re well looked after by Police ” Senator Gallagher told the ABC.

“But it would be good if we saw the temperature taken down… we’ve been saying that for some time now, and last night’s incident just says to everybody these are some of the circumstances politicians are operating in now.”
