After seven days of deliberations, the jury in the mushroom murder trial has found Erin Patterson guilty of three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
The 50-year-old had pleaded not guilty to the charges, relating to the deaths of her parents-in-law Don and Gail Patterson and Gail’s sister Heather Wilkinson. Heather’s husband Ian Wilkinson survived after spending weeks in hospital.
In the Supreme Court in Morwell, the jury rejected her side of the story, finding the mother-of-two poisoned the four former family members with death cap mushrooms which had been cooked into individual beef wellington’s during a lunch on July 29, 2023.
Patterson didn’t react as the jury handed down their verdict on Monday afternoon.
She will now be taken into custody while she awaits her sentencing hearing, which will be scheduled for a later date.
