A man has been charged after allegedly stealing a whopping $40,000 cash that was left on a train in Sydney’s south west.

Police launched an investigation this week after receiving reports the huge sum of cash had been left in a backpack on a train at Glenfield.

Following inquiries, police last night attended a home in Rossmore where they arrested a 74-year-old man.

Officers also recovered $36,500 cash.

“Police will allege in court the 74-year-old man found the backpack containing the cash on the train, before he transferred the cash into his own bag and exited the train,” NSW Police said.

The man has been charged with larceny, dispose property – theft equal serious indictable offence and deal with property proceeds of crime.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court on Thursday 24 July.
