Logan detectives have made a major breakthrough in their investigation into the death of a newborn baby almost two years ago, charging the infant’s father with murder.

The 25-year-old man was taken into custody on Monday morning, 18 months after police launched an investigation into the baby’s death.

According to police, the three-week-old boy was taken to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in a critical condition with no obvious injuries. on 18 July 2024.

The baby passed away in hospital four days later.

“Detectives undertook an extensive and protracted investigation and recently received results from medical examinations, which indicate the child sustained internal injuries,” Queensland Police said.

“Police will allege that the child received these injuries at a Rosemary Street address at Greenbank”.

The man, who police had earlier confirmed was known to the child, was charged with one count of murder.

He did not appear at Brisbane’s Magistrates Court when the case was briefly mentioned yesterday, with the matter adjourned to Beenleigh Magistrates Court on February 26.
