The wet weather event currently smashing South East Queensland has sadly turned deadly this morning.

Swift-water rescue crews were called to Brimblecombe Road at Kingsthorpe just before 5am, following reports a ute had been swept off the road by floodwaters.

Upon arrival, they found a man and a number of dogs deceased inside the vehicle.

A woman was able to be rescued from the car and has been taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Investigations into the fatality are ongoing.

Police will also prepare a report for the Coroner.
