An alleged gunman remains under police guard in hospital following a terrifying rampage on the Sunshine Coast which has left a 22-year-old woman dead and two other men injured.

Emergency services were called to the southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway around 12.10pm on Easter Monday after the 41-year-old man allegedly crash his Porsche Macan, causing a multi-car collision.

During the accident, a woman in another vehicle was killed, while a man was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the driver of the Porsche then exited the vehicle before approaching a SsangYong Rexton whilst armed with a firearm.

“He shot the male driver of the Rexton in the arm, stealing the vehicle and fleeing the scene,” Queensland Police said.

Officers located the stolen Rexton crashed in Landsborough around 12.35pm, before the man stole another vehicle, a Mazda 3.

He was finally arrested a short time later near Steve Irwin Way, where the firearm was found inside the vehicle.

Three crime scenes have since been declared, with one at Palmview and two in Landsborough.

Charges are yet to be laid as investigations continue.
