A man has been charged with a string of offences after allegedly leading police on a wild chase across northern NSW before his escapades came to a dramatic end when he got stuck in the mud.
It all unfolded around 10am on Thursday, when police attended Pat Smith Park in Dulguigan following reports a motorcycle had been stolen.
Upon arrival, two males fled the scene, one on a motorcycle and the other in a ute alleged to have been stolen from Queensland.
Police allege the ute failed to stop for police, sparking a pursuit.
“The pursuit ended on Limpton Road, Tyalgum, about 11am, when the vehicle left the road and crashed through a fence on a rural property, getting stuck in deep mud,” NSW Police said.
“The driver attempted to flee the scene and was arrested by police a short time later.”
During the arrest, the 31-year-old man allegedly bit the arm of a male sergeant, which caused a laceration.
The man was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with an outstanding warrant for a traffic offence, and was additionally charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
He was also slapped with use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, custody of knife in public place, two counts of possess prescribed restricted substance, receive property stolen outside NSW, possess housebreaking implements and assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm.
He was refused bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court today.
