A man will front court today charged over a shocking acid attack in the Tweed that’s left a man in a serious condition.
Emergency crews were called to a unit at Banora Point around 9.15am on Thursday following reports of a domestic violence-related incident.
Upon arrival, police located a 59-year-old man suffering serious burn injuries believed to be caused by an acid.
The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where he remains in an induced coma.
Following investigations, a 35-year-old man was arrested on Minjungbal Drive at Tweed Heads a short time later.
He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with do grievous bodily harm by the use of corrosive fluid etc (DV).
“Police will allege that the younger man poured acid onto the other man,” NSW Police said in a statement.
He was refused bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court today.
