A major manhunt is underway for two people who fled the scene of a fatal crash in Tweed Heads.
Emergency services were called to the the intersection of Heffron Street and Oxley Street, Tweed Heads South, around 10.30pm (AEDT) on Monday following reports a sedan had rolled.
Witnesses claim to have seen the vehicle roll after it left the roadway and crashed into a boulder.
A man, believed to be in his 30s, was found in the front seat. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he couldn’t be revived and died at the scene.
The driver and a second passenger left the scene prior to police arrival.
A major investigation is now underway to find the driver and figure out what lead up to the crash.
Tweed Heads Police are urging anyone with information of dashcam footage from the area at the time to come forward.
