LATEST @ 1.30 PM | An elderly woman has been airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital with serious leg injuries following a horror crash just south of the NSW/Qld border.
Two cars collided on the Pacific Motorway, near the Tweed Valley Way off-ramp just before 9.00am on Thursday, causing traffic mayhem as emergency crews blocked off multiple lanes whilst they responded.
“We always prepare for a confronting and challenging scene when there is a motor vehicle accident on a major motorway,” NSW Ambulance Inspector Joshua Smith said
“Multiple units were assigned including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
“One vehicle was found in the northbound lane, while another was located in the southbound lane and thanks to the multi-agency effort, today’s rescue was straightforward.”
In total, four people were treated at the scene including a woman in her 80s, another adult female, and two children.
The older woman was flown to the Gold Coast Hospital in a serious but stable condition, while the other woman and two children were taken by ambulance to Tweed Hospital with minor injuries.
