A woman has died following a horror two car crash near Tweed Heads.
Emergency crews were called to Tweed Valley Way at Tumbulgum around 7.30am on Monday following reports of a serious crash.
Upon arrival, officers found a hatchback and SUV had collided head-on.
The driver of the hatchback, an 85-year-old woman, was treated by paramedics at the scene but sadly could not be revived.
The driver of the SUV, a 43-year-old woman, escaped with minor injuries and was taken to Tweed Valley Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of incident to come forward as inquiries by the Crash Investigation Unit continue.
