Investigations are underway after a suspected stolen car was driven into the Pimpama River at Coomera.

Police were alerted around 8.15pm on Wednesday after a member of the public spotted the vehicle in the water near a boat ramp on Colman Road.

Officers rushed to the scene and found the vehicle submerged.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service team paddled out in an inflatable boat to determine if anyone was inside the car at the time.

Swiftwater rescue crews also combed the river, but thankfully it was determined no one was inside the vehicle when it plunged into the river.

Officers are continuing to investigate how the car ended up in the water and who was responsible.

The vehicle has since been removed from the water.
