A tip truck has left a trail of destruction on the northern Gold Coast, leaving many locals in Norwell and Pimpama without power this morning.

The driver of the truck allegedly forgot to lower the tray after visiting the depot, causing it to rip down powerlines along Pimpama Jacobs Well Road.

It happened around 10pm on Sunday, with the driver forced to remain in the cab of the vehicle until help arrived.

Power to the suburb also had to be cut off as Energex crews worked to clear the scene, with police also called in to divert traffic away.

“Pimpama Jacobs Well Road, between Kerkin Road North and Depot Road, and including the Kerkin Road North and Pimpama Jacobs Well Road intersection was impacted,” police said.

The driver was eventually freed around an hour later, escaping uninjured.

Police have confirmed the 63-year-old man was breath tested at the scene and returned a negative result.
