If you’ve been eyeing off a Top End getaway, now’s the time to croc ‘n’ roll because Bonza has officially launched its brand new Gold Coast to Darwin route.

The inaugural flight from the Goldie touched down at Darwin Airport just after midnight, before returning to the glitter strip with eager travellers from the NT just after 6am this morning.

The route was initially due to take off in December last year but was delayed several times due to capacity issues.

It’s another major boost for the Gold Coast’s tourism industry, with the budget airline to operate flights between the two cities twice a week.

“The Gold Coast to Darwin route has long been an underserved market, so we are thrilled that Bonza has recognised its potential,” Queensland Airports Limited CEO Amelia Evans said.

“This direct service signifies a new era of convenient connectivity for travellers, eliminating the need for transits and more time to enjoy both regions.”

Bonza CEO Tim Jordan said the airline was proud to expand its Queensland services.

“We’re Australia’s only independent, low-cost airline and we’re working hard to bring more choices for Gold Coast and Darwin customers with the introduction of affordable flights between these two iconic locations,” Mr Jordan said.

“With school holidays on the horizon, we’re looking forward to seeing our customers surfing on the Goldie or relaxing on a sunset cruise along the Timor Sea”.

To celebrate the launch of the service, more than 5,000 seats on all flights to and from Gold Coast to Darwin are now on sale and can be snapped up from $89 per person (one way) for travel until the end of May 2024.
