The City has officially broken ground on a massive $42 million redevelopment of Pizzey Park, transforming the popular space into a premier multi-sports precinct.

The project delivers on the master plan adopted in 2021, significantly boosting capacity for athletics, soccer, and rugby league to meet surging community demand.

The sweeping upgrades feature the city’s first-ever competition-standard synthetic athletics track on the south-west side, paired with upgraded soccer fields, a shared clubhouse, and new spectator seating.

Meanwhile, the north-western side will see the junior rugby league area converted into two full-sized fields with lighting.

The redesign also incorporates additional parking and modern public amenities to ensure a smoother experience for families and visiting sports clubs.

“This $42 million investment is about creating a lasting sporting legacy for the Gold Coast giving local families, clubs and athletes access to quality facilities in their own backyard,” Mayor Tom Tate said.

“As we look towards Brisbane 2032 and beyond, modern sporting infrastructure will help ensure our city is ready to embrace the opportunities that come with major events, while delivering facilities our community can enjoy every day.

“That’s why we are delivering our first competition standard athletics facility with synthetic running track.

“Pizzey Park will be a place where the next generation of athletes can train, compete and enjoy sport for decades to come.”

The City says it has worked closely with affected sporting clubs to help activities continue throughout construction and minimise disruption for members.

The project is expected to be complete by early 2028.
