Six people have been charged with firearm and drug offences following property raids on the Gold Coast.
Police allege they found an alarming haul of guns during searches at homes in Surfers Paradise and Biggera Waters over the weekend.
It includes one firearm that’s been designed to look like an iPhone.
The raids were part of an operation investigating drug trafficking on the Gold Coast, and involved detectives from the Organised Crime Gangs Group.
Six firearms were allegedly found, as well as ammunition, cash and quantities of dangerous drugs, including cocaine and methylamphetamine.
Detective Inspector Craig Bowman from the Organised Crime Gangs Group said the possession of firearms and drugs is a dangerous combination that presents significant risk to police, the community and the people involved.
“Ballistic testing is underway to determine if the weapon that is disguised to look like a iPhone, which can be folded to appear as a firearm, is actually capable of firing projectiles,” Detective Inspector Bowman says.
“The nature of this alleged offending is very concerning. I would like to reassure the community we will continue to direct our specialist resources and capabilities and take all available actions to keep the community safe from harm.”
Five men and one woman have been charged, they include a 25-year-old Edens Landing man, a 26-year-old Surfers Paradise man, a 25-year-old Surfers Paradise woman, two 20-year-old men from Biggera Waters and a 27-year-old Reedy Creek man.
