UPDATE | There’s been a tragic update in the search for a missing fisherman just north of the Gold Coast.
Just before 6pm on Wednesday evening, police were called in relation to a missing 83-year-old man who had departed from the Carbrook boat ramp in Logan.
He had indicated he would be back by 3pm but never returned, with his car and trailer still parked at the boat ramp.
Police commenced a search and rescue operation which involved multiple Water Police vessels and Polair, Marine Rescue Queensland and Coastguard.
His boat was eventually found abandoned in the vicinity of the Alberton boat ramp on the Gold Coast.
Queensland Police have confirmed the man’s body was found about 1 kilometre from the boat ramp at 8.30am on Thursday.
A report will now be prepared for the Coroner.
EARLIER | A search and rescue operation is underway just north of the Gold Coast to find a missing elderly boatie.
An 83-year-old Acacia Ridge man was last seen around midday on Wednesday and had indicated he would be returning by 3pm but hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Police have confirmed officers attended the boat ramp at Carbrook in the Logan area and found his vehicle and trailer parked there and attempted to contact him and his family members.
A search and rescue operation involving multiple Water Police vessels, Polair, Marine Rescue Queensland and the Coastguard was launched late yesterday but was suspended during the evening.
It will get back underway at first light on Thursday morning.
The boat is described as a 15-foot Clark aluminium boat with a Yamaha motor.
