A 10-year-old girl has been stabbed to death, allegedly by her own sister, at a home in the New South Wales Hunter Region.
The fatal attack happened at a home in Boolaroo, around 20km west of Newcastle, around 3.45pm on Monday.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the young girl was treated at the scene for multiple stab wounds.
Despite desperate efforts by emergency crews, she could not be revived and died at the scene.
A 17-year-old girl was arrested at the home and taken to Belmont Police Station where she is currently assisting police with inquiries.
“Both girls are believed to be known to one another,” NSW Police said in a statement.
A crime scene has been established as investigations continue.
