A Gold Coast police officer has been charged with serious assault after allegedly using excessive force while on duty.
It’s alleged the 56-year-old male senior constable from the South Eastern Region slammed on the brakes whilst transporting an offender to the Southport watchhouse, causing injury.
The officer has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and served with a notice to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on June 4.
Police say the officer has since been stood down from the Queensland Police Service.
“In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when a member of the Service faces serious allegations of misconduct,” a statement by QPS said.
“This does not mean that the allegations against the member have been substantiated”.
