The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service is warning Gold Coasters of a planned burn happening across South Stradbroke this week.

The burn began on the Island on Monday and is expected to continue until Friday 20 June, weather permitting.

As a result of the burn, smoke may be seen in nearby areas including Tipplers Precinct, Couran Precinct and Currigee Precinct.

“If visiting South Stradbroke Island, observe all signs, barriers, and directions from QPWS Rangers and never enter closed areas,” QPWS said

“Avoid driving through smoke where possible and be aware of firefighters working in the area”.

QPWS says planned burns are “vital in promoting ecological health, biodiversity, and the conservation of species and habitats”.

“They also aim to mitigate the risk and intensity of bushfires and their potential impacts on communities, infrastructure, parks, and forests”.
