A former Commonwealth Bank executive charged with procuring underage girls for sex has been found dead in the Gold Coast hinterland.
Christopher James McCann had been extradited from Sydney to Queensland to face one charge of using the internet to procure a child under 16 for sex.
The 50-year-old appeared in Brisbane’s Magistrates Court on Monday, where he was granted bail under strict conditions.
He was ordered to stay with a friend who lived on the Gold Coast, however Queensland Police confirmed Mr McCann was found dead in Springbrook National Park on Wednesday.
“A report will be prepared for the coroner following the non-suspicious death of a man at Springbrook yesterday,” the police spokesperson said.
The court heard Mr McCann allegedly asked an 18-year-old sex worker in Brisbane to supply the services of two teenage girls while staying at the five star Sofitel Hotel in May.
“Later in the evening she and the girls attended [a Brisbane CBD five-star hotel],” Magistrate Louise Shephard told Mr McCann at the bail hearing.
“The two girls went to the room and you contacted the front desk to ask them to leave,” Magistrate Shephard continued.
“It is not alleged the girls entered the room”.
The case was due to return to court on August 4.
