A man has now been charged over two attempted armed robberies following a dramatic arrest in Mermaid Beach.
The man is alleged to have attempted to hold up the Varsity Lakes Tavern with a knife on Sunday afternoon.
A female employee was allegedly threatened with a knife with the man demanding money before fleeing empty-handed in silver Subaru Forester.
He is then accused of trying to rob the Cash Converters at Mermaid Beach a short time later before fleeing in the Subaru.
The vehicle was spotted by Police about five minutes later at the intersection of Hedges Avenue and Montana Road.
Officers swarmed the scene, taking a 39-year-old Burleigh Heads man into custody.
He was taken into custody and has since been charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery.
He is due to front Southport Magistrates Court today.
