A photographer has been hit with a string of serious charges after allegedly stealing high-end camera equipment from a retired police officer killed in the horrific Bondi Beach terror attack.
The 35-year-old was arrested during an early morning raid in Sydney’s west yesterday, following a breakthrough by Homicide Squad detectives.
Police allege the man was working at the Hanukkah event on December 14 last year when he looted the gear from the 61-year-old retired police officer turned photographer and pawned it just days later.
The discovery emerged during a second critical incident investigation into the mass shooting, which claimed the lives of 15 innocent people.
During the investigations, Homicide detectives realised the slain former officer’s professional photography gear had vanished from the scene in the aftermath of the massacre.
It led them to raid a home in Marayong on Wednesday where they seized a camera, handcuffs, and electronic devices.
During a search of a car, police also located and seized a small amount of white crystal powder and further electronics.
The man was taken to the Riverstone Police Station where he was charged with multiple offences, including larceny, disposing of stolen property, fraud, possessing a prohibited weapon, and drug supply.
He’s been granted strict conditional bail and is due to face Blacktown Local Court on Monday, June 22.
