A teenage boy has been charged over the alleged bungled carjacking of a rideshare driver just off the M1.

The driver dropped the 17-year-old passenger off at a business on the Pacific Highway at Slacks Creek around 5pm on Tuesday when he allegedly pulled out a knife.

Police say the boy threatened the driver with the weapon, demanding the keys to his vehicle.

The driver then moved away from the vehicle as the teenager attempted to take it, however, the boy was unable to start the car and took off on foot.

Thankfully the driver was not injured during the ordeal.

Police managed to track down and arrest the teen at a nearby Slacks Creek address.

He’s been charged with one count of robbery while armed and is due to appear before the Beenleigh Children’s Court on 27 July.
