A Gold Coast man is in a potentially life-threatening condition following a horror assault in Cairns.
Police allege an altercation broke out between two groups near the Cairns Esplanade around 6.30pm on Wednesday.
It resulted in a 28-year-old Upper Coomera man being pushed over a retaining wall onto rocks below.
The man was assessed at the scene by paramedics for serious injuries before being rushed to Cairns Hospital for further treatment.
Following investigations, police arrested a 35-year-old Woree man.
He’s since been charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and is due to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
