Motorists are being urged to shop around for the cheapest petrol, as prices at the bowser continue to creep up right in time for school holidays.
Thousands of people will hit the roads this weekend for the start of school holidays, with no end in sight to the fuel crunch.
“Over the last few weeks, unfortunately, the conflict in the Middle East has increased global oil prices to above $100 per barrel. That is now flowing through to bowsers in Queensland,” RACQ’s Tristan Vorias said.
“And we’re seeing some of the most expensive sites charging $2.40 a litre for unleaded and $2.90 for diesel.”
Unleaded on the Gold Coast is now selling for as much as $2.44 a litre in Runaway Bay but is still as low as $2.16 in Southport.
Diesel has soared to as much as $2.92 a litre in Bundall, while it’s as low as $2.66 a litre in Nerang.
“It’s so important to do your homework because the difference between the cheaper and more expensive sites currently is around 25 cents a litre. So that translates to around $12.50 on an average tank size.
“So, it’s definitely worth spending the time to find those cheaper sites and reward those sites with your business.”
Motorists are also being warned to expect delays on our roads, especially at the beginning and end of the school holidays.
“If you’re travelling anywhere between the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast these school holidays, try and avoid Friday the 18th of September, Saturday the 19th September, or Monday the 5th of October, the public holiday.
“These will be the busiest times on our roads.
“If you do have to travel on those days, try and leave early before 8am or after 4.30pm.”
