Australia Post has revealed there’s been a significant spike in the amount of Gold Coasters shopping online.
The company has processed over 18 million parcels in the past 12 months at their Gold Coast facility, with online purchases growing by almost 10% from last year.
It’s led to the opening of a new post office in the fast-growing suburb of Pimpama, with the store swinging open its doors for the first time this morning.
The new post office, located in the heart of the northern Gold Coast suburb, also features free 24/7 Parcel Lockers to make collection of parcels easier than ever.
In a sign of the times, the Parcel Lockers also support returns at all hours of the day and night, with Gold Coasters able to drop-off pre-paid packages via a Parcel Locker.
“Over the past 12 months, we’ve seen a surge in online shopping across the Gold Coast and surrounds, with more households shopping online than ever before,” Australia Post General Manager of Retail Operations Sarah Coe said.
“Cutting-edge sortation technology and a dedicated team has allowed the Gold Coast Parcel Facility to better deliver for our customers and ensure parcels are being delivered to doorsteps as fast as possible.
“Our new Post Office in Pimpama further highlights our commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports the needs of our customers and community and the growth of Australia
Post,” Ms Coe added.
“This increased demand has also seen the Gold Coast become our largest posting zone outside the major capitals, with substantial inbound and outbound product.
“This new Post Office will make it easier for local residents and businesses to access the services they need – when and how it suits them”.
The Pimpama Post Office will be open from 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 12:30pm on Saturdays.
