Residents on a quiet Ormeau street have been woken by loud explosions after a caravan caught alight in the middle of the night.

The blaze erupted around 1.30am as the vehicle was parked in the driveway of a home along Floribunda Place.

The fire spread to a nearby vehicle and fence, with quick-thinking neighbours rushing with garden hoses to try and douse the flames.

One even managed to tow the caravan away from the house to stop it from spreading to the property.

Firefighters arrived on scene a short time later and managed to extinguish the blaze, however, the caravan was completely destroyed.

The blaze isn’t believed to be suspicious, with a battery possibly to blame.

However, police are still appealing for witnesses who may have information.
