Gold Coast motorists are being warned to brace for more pain at the bowser due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

Service stations across the city were already beginning to hike up prices on Monday afternoon, with many charging more than $2.13 a litre for regular unleaded.

In a blow to already struggling Aussies, economists are predicting fuel prices could soar even higher, with global oil prices already up more than eight per cent.

At the time of writing (6.45am Tuesday) there were still a few petrol stations, particularly on the northern Gold Coast, selling unleaded for $1.51 a litre, but it’s not expected to last long.

The warning has led to long queues at cheaper petrol stations across the Gold Coast, which are only expected to grow today – so pack your patience!
