Firefighters will return to the scene of a massive bushfire on the northern Gold Coast this morning.

The Pimpama blaze erupted around 6.30am Friday, and was eventually successfully extinguished by around 11pm Friday.

Dozens of fire crews worked for nearly 18 hours dousing the out-of-control blaze, including multiple waterbombing aircrafts.

The fire ripped through up to fifty hectares of vegetation.

Corey Bock from the Rural Fire Service has told Nine News it may have been deliberately lit.

“It is a little bit suspicious and we’re going to treat it that way,” Mr Bock says.

“We’ll look at that once we’ve got the fire suppressed we’ll move our fire investigator team in.”

It’s understood they know where the blaze started, and will now look at some indicators regarding how it may have started.

Fire crews stayed on the scene until early morning Saturday, and will return to inspect the scene later this morning.
