Over a dozen people have been charged with 93 drug and weapons offences after a major Gold Coast police operation targeting organised crime networks in the lead-up to Schoolies.

Operation Whiskey Beck saw detectives execute eight search warrants across Burleigh Waters, Labrador, Currumbin, Carrara, Mudgeeraba and Mermaid Waters over the weekend.

Police seized methylamphetamine, cocaine, cannabis, MDMA tablets, prescription drugs, weapons and more than $70,000 in cash.

Officers also conducted over 90 street checks and wandings to detect knives and other weapons.

Fifteen people, aged 21 to 25, now face a range of serious charges including drug trafficking and supply of dangerous drugs.

Detective Acting Superintendent Craig Bowman from the Organised Crime Gangs Group said the operation sent a clear message to those attempting to profit from the sale of dangerous drugs.

“This operation combined covert and overt strategies to identify those selling dangerous drugs,” he said.

“We are sending a clear message that you never know who you’re selling to — and if you’re involved, you can expect law enforcement to come through your door.”

Bowman added that police remain committed to disrupting criminal networks that endanger community safety.

“The drugs seized were destined for the streets in the lead-up to Schoolies celebrations, with no regard for the impact they could have,” he said.

“These substances destroy lives and fund further criminal activity, which is why we will continue to pursue those responsible.”

Police say investigations into the broader network remain ongoing, as authorities aim to keep Schoolies celebrations drug-free and safe for young revellers.
