A man has been charged with multiple offences after he was allegedly found walking the streets of Surfers Paradise with an axe stuffed down his pants.

The 34-year-old caught the attention of police along The Esplanade around 10pm on Sunday, after officers noticed an “obvious bulge” in his pants.

“They proceeded to search him and very quickly located a small axe which was secluded under his waistband, hence the bulge,” Acting Superintendent Ryan Clark told the ABC.

Police also allegedly uncovered a stash of steroids and a syringe.

The man was arrested at the scene, with further investigations also linking him to a number of other incidents, including similar antics with the axe on Saturday night and a break and enter in Molendinar earlier this month.

The man has been charged with a string of offences, including going armed to cause fear and will appear in court at a later date.
