A huge blow for the Gold Coast Suns, with confirmation superstar midfielder Matt Rowell will miss the start of the season.
The Brownlow medallist broke his finger in Saturday night’s AFL origin clash and was sent for scans to determine the severity.
Unfortunately, scans have confirmed the worst, with the 24-year-old to undergo surgery this week to repair the finger fracture.
“Scans have shown a fracture in Matt’s left hand. After consulting with specialists this morning, the decision was made for Matt to undergo surgery this week,” GC SUNS Head Physiotherapist Andrew Weller said.
“A timeframe around his return to play will be determined following the operation.”
The Suns also have also lost small forward Jake Rogers and ruck Max Knobel to hamstring and ankle injuries suffered on the training field.
“Jake has suffered a moderate hamstring strain which will see him unavailable for the two pre-season matches,” Weller said.
“Scans on Max’s ankle has confirmed a high-grade lateral ligament ankle injury which will also keep him sidelined in the medium term.”
The Suns host St Kilda in a match-simulation on Thursday night at People First Stadium.
