Man's lucky escape after near-drowning at Surfers Paradise

A man is recovering in hospital after nearly drowning in Surfers Paradise overnight.

Emergency crews were called to The Esplanade just after 7pm on Wednesday following reports a man had come into trouble in the surf.

The man, aged in his 30s, was pulled from the water before being treated at the scene by paramedics.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson told Hot Tomato he had ingested a significant amount of water.

He was then rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he is now in a stable condition.
