A man has been charged with a range of offences after allegedly sparking a blaze on the northern Gold Coast.
The man’s accused of dumping a stolen grey Ford Ranger on Loves Rd at Woongoolba around 8pm on Thursday before setting it alight.
That blaze then spread to nearby canefields.
It took firefighters about an hour to bring the blaze under control.
The Ranger, which had been stolen from an address in Carrara on July 17, was destroyed.
Police were quickly able to link the fire and stolen vehicle to a 31-year-old Carina man before arresting him at a property in Mt Gravatt East around 10.15pm last night.
He has since been charged with with two counts of bringing stolen goods into Queensland, as well as one count each of fraud – dishonestly gain benefit / advantage, unlawful use of motor vehicles – use used/intended for indictable offence, arson – motor vehicle, setting fire to vegetation, unlawful use of motor vehicles – use, receiving tainted property and other drug-related offences.
He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today
