UPDATE @ 10.20am October 26 | A young man who was critically injured following an explosion at a Gold Coast truck dealership has died from his injuries.
The 21-year-old was left with burns to 90 per cent of his body following the incident at the Arundel business on Tuesday morning.
It’s understood he was grinding a 150-litre drum inside a workshop when it exploded.
Queensland Police have confirmed he passed away from his injuries in hospital overnight.
Investigations into the incident are continuing and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
EARLIER @ 11.30AM, October 25 | One man is in a critical condition, while two others have been significantly injured following a horror workplace incident in Arundel.
Emergency services rushed to a business along Kingston Drive just before 8am on Tuesday with reports of a large explosion.
A man in his 20s has been rushed to hospital “lights and sirens” suffering significant burns to 90% of his body.
He’s fighting for his life at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
Stuart Cutajar from Queensland Ambulance says there was a big emergency response to the confronting incident.
“Ambulance responded with multiple units along with fire and police, and also with the assistance of the workplace here as well who did a fantastic job in helping us in treating these patients,” Mr Cutajar says.
“Patient one with life-threatening burns, so that’s a significant scene to encounter.”
A second male in his late teens is in a serious condition with burns to his face, arm and torso.
A third patient, a man in his 30s, has suffered burns to his hand and is in a stable condition.
Both have been taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.
It’s understood it happened at the Isuzu dealership, with investigations ongoing into the exact cause.
It’s not yet clear at this stage exactly what exploded or what lead to the incident.
EARLIER @ 8.15AM | Several people have been injured after a truck reportedly exploded and burst into flames in Arundel.
Emergency crews were called to an industrial area on Newheath Drive, near Kingston Drive, just before 8.00am on Tuesday following reports of an explosion at a workplace.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson confirmed to myGC that paramedics are currently treating multiple patients.
It’s understood at least three people have been injured in the blaze, with one person currently in a critical condition.
Four Queensland Fire and Emergency crews are on scene working to douse the flames.
