A man has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a horror crash in Burleigh Waters.
A ute lost control along Bermuda Street before leaving the road and ploughing into a tree just before 3pm on Thursday, trapping the driver behind the wheel.
Fire crews had to use hydraulic equipment to cut the man free from the wreckage of the vehicle, with the rescue mission taking over an hour.
The man, aged in his 40s, was treated at the scene by paramedics for significant leg, chest, head and abdominal injuries.
He was then taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains fighting for life.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
