The new and improved Palm Beach pirate park officially reopened on Thursday after a massive revamp.
The iconic playground underwent a $1.4 million upgrade after 12 years of use by children and families on the Gold Coast.
A giant flying fox, an 8-metre tunnel slide and a spinning globe are just some of the new features.
Mayor Tom Tate says he’s confident the money has been well spent and that families will love it.
“Absolutely well worth it,” Mayor Tate says.
“To get all these smiling faces, not one person on the Gold Coast would begrudge these kids to have their childhoods come alive.”

Council incorporated feedback and ideas from the community, including local primary school students, to deliver the revamped playground.
The upgraded pirate ship play structure features climbing nets and walls, a suspension bridge and telescopes and cannons.
While the area has also been given a larger play area, a 7-metre-high crow’s nest tower, swings, row boats and sensory play elements.
Mayor Tate says it’s extremely important for Council to continue upgrading community projects that are beloved by locals.
“The outdoor lifestyle is absolutely synonymised with the Gold Coast, whether it’s walking along the beach or going to various parklands with your kids,”
“You’ve got to think long-term so it’s really in the forefront in our councillor’s minds to deliver community infrastructure.”
The Palm beach pirate park underwent construction at the start of this year and is now open for all families big and small to use.
