Police are working to track down a group of juveniles on e-bikes accused of throwing projectiles at a bus, which caused it to hit a tree.

The bus, carrying five passengers along with the driver, was forced to swerve as it travelled along Teemangun St just before 11.30pm on Saturday.

The impact smashed the front windscreen of the bus, with the driver taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police reported one other person had been injured, but the details are unclear.

Chief Superintendent Kylie Rigg says the group had been causing trouble in the area earlier that evening, targeting another bus.

“In the first instance, the bus had rocks and water bombs thrown at it. The second driver, knowing they were in the location, saw those e-bike riders close to her on the roadway and, as a result, she panicked and hit a tree,” Superintendent Rigg told Seven.

Officers are yet to track down the gang responsible, but Police warn they will face the full force of the law.

“Police will be really proactive in the next few days to investigate what’s occurred. We call out for the public to come forward with information and ask that they check their CCTV cameras.

“If we can identify these young people, they face some very serious offences, and we’ll be speaking with both them and their parents.”

The incident comes amid growing concern among Gold Coast residents about groups of young e-bike riders terrorising local suburbs across the city.

Bus operator Kinetic slammed the attack and says they are working closely with Police.

“Attacks on our drivers and passengers are completely unacceptable. We strongly condemn any behaviour that puts the safety of our drivers, the passengers on board and the community at risk” Kinetic SEQ Manager Tom Kinsey said.

Councillor Nick Marshall says this latest incident could have ended up being a whole lot worse.

“It was bad enough as it was, but it could have ended in a death. The driver is in the hospital recovering, but there were five passengers who could have easily had a far worse outcome,” Cr Marshall told Nine.
