The state government will ditch public transport fares and motorway tolls across flood-affected areas of the southeast until the end of the weekend.
But that’s little comfort to Gold Coast train commuters with the Gold Coast train line to remain shut on Thursday and possibly longer.
While some train services will resume in the southeast, the Gold Coast line is still being impacted by damage from this week’s weather as well as ongoing flooding in the Logan area.
There will be no replacement bus services either.
“The Queensland Rail network was hit hard by this extreme weather event, with multiple track washouts, landslips and fallen powerlines identified at locations impacting every corridor,” Transport Minister Mark Bailey said
“We’ve even found several vehicles in the rail corridor, swept there by floodwaters.
“Thanks to crews working day and night to complete repairs, we will partially resume services at a reduced timetable from tomorrow.
“Safety is absolutely paramount, which means that some lines will not be fully operational as further recovery works take place.”
The Transport Minister has confirmed public transport fees would be waived across the southeast network until the last service on Sunday.
“This covers services from Coolangatta all the way up to the Fraser Coast and across to Toowoomba, because just about every community in between has been impacted in some way.
“There will be no need to tap on, or off, and the go card readers will be disabled at stations.”
Toll roads in the southeast will also be free until midnight Sunday including on the Gateway and Logan motorways, AirportLink tunnel and Toowoomba Bypass, as well as the Legacy way, Clem 7 and the Go Between Bridge.
