A pet dachshund has been caught up in a wild stolen car joyride across the Gold Coast.
The 12-year-old named Billy was sitting in his owner’s Mercedes Benz outside a business in Worongary around 4pm on Wednesday when a thief jumped into the vehicle.
The alleged offender, a 17-year-old boy, later dropped the dog off at a shopping centre in Nerang where it was collected and taken to a vet safe and well.
The teen continued in the stolen vehicle, leading police on an hours long chase across the city.
His escapades finally came to an end just after 11pm when police deployed tyre spikes, bringing the vehicle to a stop on the Gold Coast Highway in Palm Beach.
The boy surrendered by lying in the middle of the road before he was taken into custody.
He’s continuing to assist police with investigations, with charges yet to be laid.
